Dan Scully's 1987 Porsche 951
The latest from Dan:
My first 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo (black/tan) has developed a mixing problem with coolant in the oil. With the recent quotes from Porsche shops to get it fixed was outrageous. In the mean time I decided to start looking for another 951 (Aug 01). I found a nice 1987 944 Turbo Black/Black with 42k original miles, original window sticker, and service records in Ohio. I had the car PPI and had a carfax report done. As expected the car turned out to be a gem! I decided to offer the owner 2k lower than he was offering. Thank God he accepted as that was all the money I had. Now I have 2 944 Turbo's one of which has a bad oil antifreeze mixing problem. I original decided to sell this car to help offset the cost of the new one but I just couldn't do it. This is my first Porsche which is now part of the family and could not let him go!! How stupid of me to even think of selling her!! I have decided to fix the car myself and so far I'm half way done with getting everything put back together. I have installed new oil cooler seals, updated to a widefire gasket, and I'm also hoping to do the rod bearings and motor mounts while I'm there. On my second Porsche (black/black 951) I installed all my Huntley gear on it from the first Porsche, and also installed a Huntley 3" testpipe. I have run several Gtech 1/4 mile times ranging from 12.93-13.34 with 16-17psi boost. Expect updated pictures in a few weeks."
Earlier Updates:
Here's where Dan is at with his 951 in 2001:
"I have now added Huntley Racing Chips, Huntley Racing Stage 3 MAF, Huntley Racing ARC2, Autometer boost plus Air/Fuel gauges, Huntley Racing adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Paul Guard Torgue-Biasing differential, and a Huntley Racing manual boost controller set at 15psi. The car is making a little over 300HP and 310TQ now, and is a real joy to drive. The Huntley gear I have added has really made the car come alive and scary FAST!! I have raced several Ram Air Firebirds making 325HP+ and where able to beat them in an all out drag race. Future upgrades are Huntley Racing Stage 2 turbo ball bearing, and turbo twist wheels."

"I have dreamed of always owning a 951 Porsche for quite some time. At age 16 I got my first job and started saving religiously for my future 951. After talking to my parents about purchasing a Porsche they absolutely refused the idea completely, but I knew I had to have one. At age 17 I was working two jobs trying to gather up enough money to buy one of these babies.
At age 18 I had enough money to almost pay all cash for my first 951 Porsche. I saw an ad on the internet though ep.com. The ad stated '87 Porsche 944 Turbo Black/Tan One Owner.' I began to check it out and emailed the lady. It turns out she purchased the car new in Ann Arbor Michigan for close to 40k. The car had recent timing belt, waterpump, oil cooler, brakes, and tune-up. She even had service records all the way back to '93.
Next thing I know, I'm sending the lady a deposit to purchase the car--by that time I had forgot about what my parents had said about the car. All I could think about was me driving that car for the next month. Well the time came for me to pick up the car. I had the car pre purchase inspected, and had insurance for the ride home. All in all the car was awesome, an absolute dream come true, and worth the consequences I had to suffer through. After giving my parents a few days to cool off, my dad told my mother that 'He should get a Porsche.' Anyways the car runs great and drives real tight, I plan to keep it forever!!"
