Sean's 1986 Porsche 951

This '86 944 Turbo wasting away for ten years in a guy's backyard down south. He was going to part it out or sell the whole car. In asking him some questions about the car he said it had 16x8 and 9" Fuchs. I said I didn't think they came with rims that large. His reply..."Oh, it used to be a race car driven by Al Holbert." Okay, this sounds like a good story but the guy must be crazy. I bought the car (got two new sets of Michelins with the deal), and then my curiosity got the best of me. After a bunch of calls, I located the ex-team manager for Porsche Motorsport North America from 1986, Tom Seabolt. He still had 3 boxes of files from that racing program. He later confirmed my serial number, and I almost fell on the floor!
This car was owned by Porsche AG, and was the factory development/test car for 944 Turbo racing series. When one of the original seven cars was totaled in the Canadian Rothmans/Escort Endurance series, Al Holbert (then director of Porsche Motorsport North America and factory driver) requested that the factory send this car over so he could drive it in the series at Mosport Park. Leroy Cannon Motors later purchased the vehicle.
Car came equiped with roll cage, no A/C, no radio, no power windows, manual mirrors, big sway bars, adjustable Konis with coil over springs and adjustable spring plates, 8" and 9" Fuchs, non-catalyst Swedish SS exhaust, etc.
