I am the proud new owner of a 1983 944 NA. After I learned how to drive a standard on my uncle's new 996 (911) approximately a month ago, I fell in love with Porsches. I may only be 16, but I do have a genuine appreciation for these cars.

The following Monday, I was traveling along a rural route and saw a red 944 with a "For Sale" sign in the window. I said nothing to my parents for about a week. That Saturday, I mentioned the 944 to my father when we were in the area again. We stopped to inspect the car. It was dirty, faded, and the interior smelled moldy. My father and I went home, me being slightly dejected that my father didn't seem to like the car.

The following morning, he woke me up and asked when I would like to go inspect the car again. He called the owner and made an appointment for the early afternoon. We drove the car, and it was solid. He put a deposit down, and we took delivery of it on the following day. For $3000, we considered it a bargain.

I am the third owner of the car, which has 109,000 miles on it. It was a Florida car until about 4 years ago, until the owners moved to New England. The undercoating on the chassis is almost immaculate. There is no rust, with the exception of a few small chips. It has a dent on the front of the car, but I will be removing it shortly. In terms of mechanicals, it is also solid. It only needs a new motor mount and a timing belt adjustment. The interior no longer smells like mold, I think it just needed to sit for awhile with the windows down.
