Nathan & Christies' 1983 Porsche 944

Early contributors to 944 Central, Nate and Christie are no longer the owners of this 944.
My wife Christie & I live in Seattle and are proud owners of a new-to-us '83 944. We bought the car as part of a tremendous deal. Christie's former co-worker Adelle and her husband Martin were moving to Europe and they had to sell two of their three cars. They had a 1994 Isuzu Trooper 4x4 and a 1983 Porsche 944 for sale.
I test drove both vehicles with the intention of only buying the Trooper--thought it was all we could afford. When Martin and I went inside he and I haggled over price and I realized he was talking about a deal for BOTH vehicles for the wholesale price of thr Trooper alone! Needless to say, from that point it was a done deal.
Since the purchase, I have put $1,500 of preventative service into the car. For this, I had the front ball joints replaced as the boots were bad. I also had the timing belt checked over and adjusted. The motor mount nearest the exhaust (common problem from what I've heard) was shot and had to be replaced--result being a remarkably smooth idle. I had all sorts of other little things checked out as well... oil change, filter, lube the chassis, etc. Paul Weir Porsche (independant) shop of Seattle did a great job. Check 'em out on the web at www.paulweir.com.
I've attached a few photos of the 944 I took shortly after getting it. The car isn't detailed or even WASHED yet! The weather here in Seattle is usually pretty rainy in the winter which makes for a fun time keeping cars clean. Luckily since we have other daily transportation, we can enjoy the 944 on nice days & weekends.
Here's some details about our car:
- Black paint/black leather seating
- 4-cyl/5-speed w/ 138k miles
- 3 owners (us included) last owners owned since 1986
- Factory alloys, alarm, lift-out sunroof
- Options: cassette radio, power windows, rear defroster, power mirrors
