Richard's 1985.5 Porsche 944
I was looking through the Sunday classifieds as I do every Sunday. Looking for a car bargain that I might be able to make a few dollars on, off of on Ebay. I normally try to stick with he cars that I know about, such as corvettes, 300z's, Mustangs, and T/A's ...you get the picture.. I was going down the Pontiac section and came across an ad for a 1985 Porsche 944 with 115k miles for a very low price, so...I thought to my self why not call and find out more, I mean I didn't know a lot about a Porsche but there was nothing really in the paper today that I was interested in anyway, so I called and to no avail no answer, so...I debated weather or not to live my phone #....I did.
Buy 5pm that evening, I never received a call, however, I had been surfing the net reading up on the 944 Porsche, and referring to Ebay as well as the local auto trader for going prices and I aw that their maybe a profit in this if the car was a clean one, so I called back after 6pm and someone answered this time, after all the "usual" questions, I had come to find out that this car was bought from the original owner who was their next door neighbor, and always maintained regularly. The reason they were Selling the car is that the car had been sitting in the garage for 2 years and only driven to keep up the battery due to the fact the wife (the owner) had almost had a near car wreck with a 18 wheeler on the interstate when he swerved lanes and didn't see her, she parked the car and bought a big SUV.
She had just had over 2k in maintenance work done to the car before it was set to rest in the garage for two years. Her husband a Corvette man himself, talked her into finally selling the car, thus I come into the picture. I had talked with her husband on the phone for quite some time that night, and he said that the car would take the curves better than his Corvette.... after owning a few Corvettes, I thought to myself...yeah right...but nevertheless, there still maybe some profit in this machine. So, I made an offer sight unseen over the phone, and in an hour I was sitting at their house looking the car over.
1985 Garnet Red with Burgundy interior
First thing, small dent under the front passenger side fender...ok, that's not too bad...cars looks dirty all over, clean underneath, at least that's when I saw new tires, hmmm.... on to the engine, started her up...hmmmmmmmm, the warning lights on the dash is on, ....brake fluid and brake pad lights are on....NOT GOOD....so I am thinking to myself at this point, maybe this may not be a car I need to mess with......but......I heard a little voice that told me that is was something minor, and that all she needed was some TLC and a good home. SO...I handed the woman over 20 new one hundred dollar bills...yes, $2,000 and jumped in the drivers seat and we were off!
OK.... I have spent the best part of five days with this car, and I have to tell you what I found underneath all the dirt was the most beautiful, best handling car and well taken care of car that I had ever seen with 115k...she is not for sale any longer, she found a new home! She is not perfect, but we will work on that over the years!
Corvette man no more...Porsche man forever!
